Let’s talk about me!

Madeleine Polak (she/her)  is a lover of emerging new theatre, name brand sharpies, iced oat lattes, and colour-coded spreadsheets. She’s a queer theatre maker & manager based in Vancouver, where she has earned her BFA in Theatre Design & Production from the University of British Columbia. A firm believer in wearing multiple hats within the industry, Madeleine is active as both a stage manager and costume designer, as well as a fledgling director.

Madeleine has been worked in the UBC Costume Shop for three years as an Undergraduate Academic Advisor and has previously been an intern with The Arts Club Costume Department.

In her costume design work, Madeleine frequently marvels that her work allows her to spend her days playing professional dress up in the dark. Current design highlights include her costume design work for Orange Floor’s 2%, UBC Musical Theatre Troupe’s Theory of Relativity, UBC Theatre’s Saint Joan of the Stockyards and The Very Book Indeed.

As a stage manager, Madeleine sees well organised spreadsheets as their own artform. She has previously worked with Theatre Terrific on their 2024 Harvest production Proximity, The 2024 Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival with the Community Arts Council of Vancouver, and with local queer rock-band  Hot Dyke Party during their original performance run.
